Chapter Six
Homework is to read pgs 70-75
*There will be questions to answer in class based on this assignment. They will be collected by the sub for a grade.

Due Friday, 9/19:
Homework is to read pgs. 75-82
*There will be questions to answer in class based on this assignment. They will be collected by the sub for a grade.

Due Monday, 9/22:
No homework. We will go over the answers to the class questions from pages 70-82.

Due Tuesday, 9/23:
Read pgs. 82-88 and answer the following questions:
1. How did Hinduism & Islam influence India’s society?
2. List all the ways Great Britain intervened/changed India.
3. What role did nationalism play after 1900 in India?
4. What reforms/changes did Indians gain on their way to independence?
5. Describe what was going on in the Persian and Ottoman Empires in 1900.
6. What was the “great game” and how did it relate to the Ottoman and Persian Empires?
7. What did Great Britain do to “protect” India from Russia? Why did it feel the need to do this?
8. Describe the “death throws” of the Ottoman Empire.

Due Wednesday, 9/24:
Read pgs. 88-91 and answer the following questions:
9. Briefly highlight the development of Australasia around 1900.
10. How did France gain French Indochina?
11. How did the Vietnamese react to France’s control starting in 1905?
12. How did the Dutch rule the East Indies?
13. How did they react starting in 1910?

Due Thursday, 9/25:
Read pgs. 91-94 and answer the following questions:
14. Outline how the USA obtained Hawaii.
15. What did the USA get as a result of the Spanish-American war?
16. Outline the pro and anti-imperialists’ positions regarding the Philippines.
17. What did the USA do in the Philippines from 1899-1907?
18. What did the USA do to “make up” for it’s behavior from 1899-1907.

We will also briefly review in class for the test. Test questions will be distributed after review.

For Friday, 9/26:
Test on Imperialism. Questions will be handed out Thursday after review.
